By now, you’re probably sick to death of hearing about Frank Kern’s Mass Control. For those of you who weren’t able to get your hands on it, this article might give you a little insight into just what Mass Control is to me. Quite honestly, it isn’t anything new but it’s something that so few marketers do because they are only out for the almighty dollar and don’t really think about their prospects in terms of how to really relate to them as people. That is what Mass Control is all about. What do I mean? Let me explain.
Let’s say you’re walking into a restaurant and the waitress brings you your meal and there is a problem with it. The instinctive thing to do would be to call the waitress over and complain, making all kinds of sour faces and being a real pain in the behind. The waitress might take the food back but do you think she’s really going to go to the trouble to see that the meal that is returned to you is any better? Think she’ll care after you ripped her to shreds?
Now imagine that same situation. You get your meal, notice there is a problem with it and instead of calling the waitress over to complain, you call her over and say, “Excuse me miss, I couldn’t help notice how lovely your eye shadow is. What brand do you use?” Or you might compliment her hair or something else. Now she’s got a smile on her face as you strike up a brief conversation. At the end of it you say something like, “I hate to be a pest but…” and then you tell her what the problem is with your meal. She’ll have that plate up off the table and back in the kitchen in no time flat and you’ve just made a friend.
How you treat your customers will go a long way in determining what kind of sales conversions you get. If you come off as being somebody who is just after the sale, they’re going to tune you out. But if you take the time to get to know your customers, maybe send them some personal information about yourself, you’ll find that when you do send them a promotional email, they’re going to be more receptive to it.
Naturally, that isn’t all there is to Mass Control, but it’s a big part of it. If you don’t treat your customers like human beings, don’t expect them to treat you any differently.
To YOUR Success,
